Wolfschanze / Wolf’s lair – Hitler’s Eastern Front military headquarters WWII. Felt like visiting some ancient Maya ruins in the jungle, all overgrown with moss and dripping with moisture after a nights rain.

Wolf = Hitler’s nick-name for himself. Built in 1941 for the planned invasion of the Soviet Union, Operation Barbarossa.s12.jpg

Bialowieza forest – on the border to Belaris – the last primeval forest in Europe. Used for hunting by the Russian tsars and therefore left untouched.                                s5.jpg

Bobrka – Museum of Oil and Gas Industry. Oil and gas extraction started here in 1854 with hand operated drilling rigs. Now there is a really nice, well organized and interesting museum.
